When should my policy begin?

You should start your policy as soon as possible.

Imagine: Your practicum or internship is set to kick off in May, but the University has a placement that is available in April. If your policy is already in force you’ll be able to step into that practicum/internship.

How soon may I obtain proof of coverage?

Proof of coverage may be issued on the same day your application is approved, and payment is received. This is a temporary certificate of insurance. Your certificate of insurance including your account number and policy number will be emailed to you (usually by the next business day after approval and payment). A Declarations page will be sent to you via USPS shortly thereafter.

Should I use my .edu email address for my account communications?

We recommend that you do not use your .edu email address for your account as you may not always have access to the emails, particularly during school breaks. For this reason, and to make sure you don't miss important communications about your coverage and your policy, we recommend that you use a personal email account that is easily accessible to you.

The coverage is provided by American Professional Agency, Inc., underwritten by Allied World Insurance Company, and its member companies.

How much does this coverage cost?

Limits of Liability $1,000,000/$3,000,000 costs $35 annually and $2,000,000/$4,000,000 costs $41 annually.

What is covered with this malpractice insurance program?

Accepted Answer

No deductible insurance against claims from your professional training.  Guidance and free risk management consultations during business hours.  Occurrence Form policy – Protection against acts occurring during the policy period even though the claim is submitted after the policy expires.

You can select one of two coverage limits from $1 million/$3 million or $2 million/$4 million.

Who is eligible for student coverage?

Accepted Answer

Students in accredited programs are eligible for coverage, including those working towards a degree in mental health fields, including psychology, social work, addiction counseling, peer recovery support specialists, clergy and pastoral counseling, psychoanalysts, fitness and wellness (allied health) professions, spiritual care professionals, hypnosis, and nurse practitioners. Will this insurance cover me if I get a part-time job?

Accepted Answer

No, the student liability program is designed to cover the risk associated with field study placement only and does not cover employment related activities. If you get a job that is not part of your school sponsored curriculum, you will need additional coverage for those activities. You may apply for an individual professional policy, or you may be able to obtain coverage through your employer.
